A brief definition of translation would be translation consists of transpositionning a source text into another language, retaining the essence of the source text, its meaning and its message.

It consists of reviewing possible translation errors or inadequacies. For example: a word used in an inappropriate context, an error of sense, if the vocabulary is homogeneous or if it makes sense for the reader, etc. To perform this task, both source and target texts are needed, and they have to be checked segment by segment.
The work of revision is very important and has to be done for each translation.

Proofreading is the final step after the translation and its revision in which spelling errors, grammar, punctuation, etc., are checked. It is the green light to the printing or the publication of the text.
The source text is not needed.
